Messenger's              Satan               The End Times                Death                In the Grave                   Paradise & Hell

Death is a natural phenomenon by which a Person's soul leaves this world for the hereafter.

Quran [29:57] Every soul shall have a taste of death in the end to Us shall ye be brought back.

The lifeless body is buried in earth only to be resurrected on the day of Judgement.

Scientists (those who deny truth) have yet to explain the very fact that why all of a sudden all the body cells cease to function !!
Why DEATH occurs is not because we have sinned (the misunderstood christian philosophy by St.Paul), or not because we are heading to be born-again 7 times (misunderstood Hindu Philosophy) but because Allah (God) will test us of our works on the day of Judgement.

Quran [67:2] "He Who created Death and Life, that He may try which of you is best in deed: and He is the Exalted in Might, Oft-Forgiving "

After death our soul returns to our creator as the Holy Quran says [2:156] "To Allah (Almighty God) we belong, and to Him is our return."

Death is also a reminder to the living that they will sooner or later follow the deceased and should not be foolish enough to take the life of this world as Play and amusement in this temporary home. Allah says in the Holy Quran
[6:32] What is the life of this world but play and amusement? But best is the home in the hereafter, for those who are righteous. Will ye not then understand?"

Types of Dead

1. Physically Dead : Is when the soul leaves the body and medically the person is pronounced dead.

2. Spiritually Dead : Is a person who is living but is heedless of the right path (Islam) and enjoins evil and praises/follows anything other than Allah.

Prophet Muhammed (saw) said, "The example of the one who celebrates the Praises of his Lord (Allah) in comparison to the one who does not celebrate the Praises of his Lord (Allah), is that of a living creature compared to a dead one." (Bukhari 8:75:416)

Death of a Muslim & Non-Muslim

Isamic traditions command quick burial of the dead body. The following tradition relates why ?

Narated By Abu Huraira : The Prophet said, "Hurry up with the dead body for if it was righteous, you are forwarding it to welfare; and if it was otherwise, then you are putting off an evil thing down your necks." (Bukhari 2:23:401)

Narated By Abu Qatada bin Rib'i Al-Ansari : A funeral procession passed by Allah's Apostle who said, "Relieved or relieving?" The people asked, "O Allah's Apostle! What is relieved and relieving?" He said, "A believer is relieved (by death) from the troubles and hardships of the world and leaves for the Mercy of Allah, while (the death of) a wicked person relieves the people, the land, the trees, (and) the animals from him." (Bukhari 8:76:519)

Suicidal death

This is banned in Islam. Since Allah is the soul owner of the body we cannot take our own life in any situation. May Allah protect us from such acts which will put us in hell !! (Ameen)

Narated By Thabit bin Ad-Dahhak : The Prophet (SAW) said, "Whoever intentionally swears falsely by a religion other than Islam, then he is what he has said, (e.g. if he says, 'If such thing is not true then I am a Jew,' he is really a Jew). And whoever commits suicide with piece of iron will be punished with the same piece of iron in the Hell Fire." (Bukhari 2:023:445)

Narrated Jundab the Prophet said, "A man was inflicted with wounds and he committed suicide, and so Allah said: My slave has caused death on
himself hurriedly, so I forbid Paradise for him." (Bukhari 2:023:445)

Death of A Man in Debt

Islamic system commands that someone should take the responsibilty to clear off a dead person's debt, in the event it is unable to be paid even after selling his left-outs.

Narated By Abu Huraira : Whenever a dead man in debt was brought to Allah's Apostle he would ask, "Has he left anything to repay his debt?" If he was informed that he had left something to repay his debts, he would offer his funeral prayer, otherwise he would tell the Muslims to offer their friend's funeral prayer. When Allah made the Prophet wealthy through conquests, he said, "I am more rightful than other believers to be the guardian of the believers, so if a Muslim dies while in debt, I am responsible for the repayment of his debt, and whoever leaves wealth (after his death) it will belong to his heirs." (Bukhari 3:37:495)

Death of a Martyr

Martyr's are granted special position in Islam due to the nature of their death. The following are listed as those who are considered to be martyrs.

Five are martyrs: One who dies of plague, one who dies of an abdominal disease, one who dies of drowning, one who is buried alive BY (and) dies and one who is killed in Allah's cause." (Bukhari 1:11:624)

Narated By Jabir : The Prophet said, "Bury them (i.e. martyrs) with their blood." (that was) On the day of the Battle of Uhud. He did not get them washed. (Bukhari 2:23:430)

Narated By Samura : The Prophet said, "Last night two men came to me (in a dream) and made me ascend a tree and then admitted me into a better and superior house, better of which I have never seen. One of them said, 'This house is the house of martyrs." (Bukhari 4:52:49)

Narated By Abu Huraira : Allah's Apostle said, "Allah guarantees him who strives in His Cause and whose motivation for going out is nothing but Jihad (fighting) in His Cause and belief in His Word, that He will admit him into Paradise (if martyred) or bring him back to his dwelling place, whence he has come out, with what he gains of reward and booty." (Bukhari 4:53:352)

Narated By Abu Musa Al-Ashari : A bedouin asked the Prophet, "A man may fight for the sake of booty, and another may fight so that he may be mentioned by the people, and a third may fight to show his position (i.e. bravery); which of these regarded as fighting in Allah's Cause?" The Prophet said, "He who fights so that Allah's Word (i.e. Islam) should be superior, fights for Allah's Cause."(Bukhari 4:53:355)

How the soul is Extracted

When the time has come, angel of death desends upon such a person and extracts the soul ( not a second late nor a second early)

The soul of a Believer (Muslim) is extracted easily as hair is extracted from flour, while the soul of a disbeliever (Non-Muslim) is extracted as a cloth stuck on a thorny tree is pulled free.

Allah says in the Holy Quran:

Quran [41:30] In the case of those who say, "Our Lord is Allah," and, further, stand straight and steadfast, the angels descend on them (from time to time): "Fear ye not!" (they suggest), "Nor grieve! but receive the Glad Tidings of the Garden (of Bliss), that which ye were promised!

Quran [41:31] "We are your protectors in this life and in the Hereafter: therein shall ye have all that your souls shall desire; therein shall ye have all that ye ask for!

What Prophet Muhammed left after death

Narated By 'Amr bin Al-Harith : The Prophet did not leave anything behind him after his death except a white mule, his arms and a piece of land which he left to be given in charity. (Bukkhari 4:52:125)

Islamic rites

Those around the dying person will make him recite the Kalimah
" La Illaha Illallah Muhammed Ar Rasull Allah" (There is no God but Allah and Muhammed is his Messenger)

Upon death, the eye lids are to be closed, The whole body is washed, perfumed and wrapped in a shroud.

Wailing (and other aggressive behaviours) are strictly prohibited. However natural weeping is allowed as it is because of love and affection of the deceased.

Muslim Men gather and a Congregation Salat (Prayer) is performed (the dead body in front). The body is then buried soon after the Salat (prayer). The body is to be laid on its right side facing the direction of Makkah. A ceiling is attached to the grave and then covered with mud. A stone may be used to mark its location. Concrete or other forms of structures are not allowed on top of the grave.

The family of the dead has a responsibility to fulfill any debts he had as soon as possible. They have the commitment to maintain contacts and courteous relationships with close relatives and close friends. Visiting the graves is recommended for the living to remember death and the day of judgment.

Narated By Um 'Atiyya : The Prophet said, "It is not lawful for a lady who believes in Allah and the Last Day, to mourn for more than three days for a dead person, except for her husband, in which case she should neither put kohl in her eyes, nor perfume herself, nor wear dyed clothes, except a garment of 'Asb". We were allowed very light perfumes at the time of taking a bath after menses and also we were forbidden to go with the funeral procession. (Bukhari 1:6:310 & 7:63:255)

[Quran 2:234 ] "If any of you die and leave widows behind, they shall wait concerning themselves four months and ten days: when they have fulfilled their term, there is no blame on you if they dispose of themselves in a just and reasonable manner. And Allah is well acquainted with what ye do."

The wisdom behind the widow to mourn for 4months 10days is that they will get enough time to search for the best spouses in order to get re-married. Further they should dress in plain clothing so that people will be reminded that they are under mourning thus restrict themselves from asking hands of such women.

Funeral Prayer

Funeral prayer is offered only if the dead is a Muslim or a Non-Muslim child. As for the non-muslim who are above the age of puberty he is to be simply buried. The below hadith clarifies the position.

Narated By Ibn Shihab : The funeral prayer should be offered for every child even if he were the son of a prostitute as he was born with a true faith of Islam (i.e. to worship none but Allah Alone). If his parents are Muslims, particularly the father, even if his mother were a non-Muslim, and if he after the delivery cries (even once) before his death (i.e. born alive) then the funeral prayer must be offered. And if the child does not cry after his delivery (i.e. born dead) then his funeral prayer should not be offered, and he will be considered as a miscarriage. Abu Huraira, narrated that the Prophet said, "Every child is born with a true faith (i.e. to worship none but Allah Alone) but his parents convert him to Judaism or
to Christianity or to Magainism, as an animal delivers a perfect baby animal. Do you find it mutilated?" Then Abu Huraira recited the holy verses: 'The pure Allah's Islamic nature (true faith i.e. to worship none but Allah Alone), with which He has created human beings.'" (30.30). (Bukhari 2:23:440)

Allah showers his mercy on the death of a charitable man

From among the people preceding your generation, there was a man whom the angel of death visited to capture his soul. (So his soul was captured) and he was asked if he had done any good deed.' He replied, 'I don't remember any good deed.' He was asked to think it over. He said, 'I do not remember, except that I used to trade with the people in the world and I used to give a respite to the rich and forgive the poor (among my debtors). So Allah made him enter Paradise." Hudhaifa further said, "I also heard him saying, 'Once there was a man on his death-bed, who, losing every hope of surviving said to his family: When I die, gather for me a large heap of wood and make a fire (to burn me). When the fire eats my meat and reaches my bones, and when the bones burn, take and crush them into powder and wait for a windy day to throw it (i.e. the powder) over the sea. They did so, but Allah collected his particles and asked him: Why did you do so? He replied: For fear of You. So Allah forgave him." 'Uqba bin 'Amr said, "I heard him saying that the Israeli used to dig the grave of the dead (to steal their shrouds)." (Bukhari 4:56:659)

Acts that benefit the dead

Narated By Anas bin Malik : Allah's Apostle said, "When carried to his grave, a dead person is followed by three, two of which return (after his burial) and one remains with him: his relative, his property, and his deeds follow him; relatives and his property go back while his deeds remain with him." (Bukhari 8:76:521)

Destination is shown

Narated By Ibn 'Umar : Allah's Apostle said, "When anyone of you dies, his destination is displayed before him in the forenoon and in the afternoon, either in the (Hell) Fire or in Paradise, and it is said to him, "That is your place till you are resurrected and sent to it." (Bukhari 8:76:522)
